Here are 8 False Myths about Autism and Autistic People from An Autistic woman

Myths, there all around and can be pretty hurtful, especially when they are not true at all. Though, if you haven't heard or if you have been living under a rock, you might be aware of some myths about autism spectrum disorder and the people with this disability that are not true. So, without further ado, here some myths about Autism, Autistic people, and how untrue they are.

First off, what is Autism?

Autism Spectrum Disorder or Autism, for short, is a neurodevelopmental disorder that affects a person's communication skills, social skills, and development, based on a spectrum of traits.

Now without further ado, eight false myths about Autism and Autistic people

Myth #1: Vaccines cause Autism

This one is a big, fat no, they do not. Autism is a neurodevelopmental disorder that you are only born with it. Not develop. If you were diagnosed with Autism after that, then you always were Autistic, just late-diagnosed or something.

Myth 2: Autism is a disorder only in children

No, Autism is a lifelong disorder that doesn't need to be cured at all. Plus, those same Autistic children will grow up to be Autistic Adults that will still need support.

Myth 3: Autism is a result of bad parenting of refrigerator moms.

Ugh! While Autistic people face abuse, whether from friends or partnerships; especially family, but Autism is not, I repeat, Autism is not a result of bad parenting. If a child seems to have Autistic-like traits or behaviors, you got two possibilities. One, the child is Autistic, and just been fated in an unfortunate situation that's not causing the disorder or two, they have another disorder like OCD, PTSD, C-PTSD that is looking similar. Please make sure to get a psychological evaluation, if you can, please. Thank you!

Myth 4: Autistic people do not want to communicate

It's not that we do not want to communicate, some Autistic people cannot physically speak or some Autistic people may have anxiety and don't know what to do like me. And sometimes we are just okay to be by ourselves, and it has nothing to do with you at all.

Myth 5: Individuals with Autism have no sense of humor

No, just because some of us cannot get jokes like me, doesn't mean we don't have a sense of humor at all. We do have a sense of humor, it's just different and that's all.

Myth 6: Autism can cured

First of all, we don't want to be cured and second, there is no cure for Autism either.

Myth 7: Only boys are Autistic

No, Autism doesn't discriminate, anyone of any race, both genders, sexualities, or those with other types of disabilities can be Autistic as well. They may not be talked about possibly, due to culture, stereotypes, or myths like this.

Myth 8: Autistic people are anti-social

Unless, they have a comorbidity with Anti-Social Personality Disorder, we are not anti-social we just prefer to be by ourselves, especially if there is no one else nearby us.

And that's it! I hoped you enjoyed this post and if you did, comment, like, and follow my blog page on Facebook! Anyways, with that said, see ya post! Bye!

Although, many people may not know what it's actually like to experience a mental illness, whether it's Anxiety, Depression, etc. So, what does this have to do with me, you ask? Well, like the title, I have a mental illness!          What Mental Illness do I have?    My mental illness is Anxiety. I have an anxiety disorder that causes me to worry to no end to the point, where my life is nearly affected every day.      What Anxiety Disorder do you have?     I have an anxiety disorder called General Anxiety Disorder. This worrying and panic, leads to a lot of symptoms that the Mayo Clinic lists on their website, these symptoms include...

Autism and Modern Eugenics

Eugenics, an ugly disaster for any minority when it is directed to erasure a certain thing in a group of people that is unliked by the majority or another group of people opposite of those without the "undesirable" trait. This concept has happened for many years in the past, like in the 19th and 20th century, but what if I were to tell you that it's still happening today, but in more ways than one? Especially to Autistic people?      Now, I bet you are wondering what I mean by this. Well, in order to show you, we must know what eugenics is and why it is done.      So, what is Eugenics?       Eugenics is the theoretical practice that aims to create "the perfect human" through medical and, as of now, social practices that are done with the intentions to "improve humanity" through genetic quality. This can be done through practices such as conversion therapy, surgeries, unnecessary medicalization, forced sterilization, e...

Lateral Ableism? Is it real? An Autistic Woman's thoughts.

Ableism, the unjust practices towards people with disabilities, whether those people are Autistic, have a mental illness, or a sensory disorder or a physical disability. All of it goes under ableism, however, what if I were to tell you that not all disabled people understand one another? Disability-wise? Don't believe me? Well, let me introduce to the idea of Lateral Ableism, along with both the consequences and horrible impact on people with disabilities effected by this.      First off, what is Lateral Ableism? Lateral Ableism is when one Disabled person discriminates against another Disabled person, based on their disability. This can be unintentional and intentional. It's basically what regular ableism is, but instead of a neurotypical doing the bad deed, it's another disabled person. What are some examples of this? Some examples of this are:  An Autistic not understanding another Autistic person's Autistic traits. A person with a mental diso...
